PGL Copenhagen Major 2024 – Playoffs

CS PGL Copenhagen Major
CS PGL Copenhagen Major is live until March 31st

Thursday will mark the beginning of the end of the first Counter-Strike 2 Major tournament. PGL Copenhagen Major is going to its final stage, the Playoffs. From Thursday, the 28th to Sunday, the 31st of March, we will watch 8 teams battle it out for the PGL Copenhagen Major championship trophy and $500,000 1st place prize pool.

Opening Stage – Summary

The opening stage went pretty much as expected, except ENCE dropped out of the PGL Copenhagen Major very early. With 1 win and 3 losses, they finish their Major run after only 5 maps. Another interesting fact was that GamerLegion, a team that won 2nd place last May at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, didn’t make it either, but that was kinda expected.

Elimination Stage – Summary

Oh boy, we saw everything there. FURIA is being crushed, heavily. Loss vs G2, FaZe and ESTATIC did shock Brazilian fans. HEROIC went from hero to zero. From 3-0 in the opening stage, they went to 1-3 in the elimination stage, winning only vs FaZe. But losing to paiN 0-2 in a deciding match. Kinda ironic.

PGL Copenhagen Major – Summary – by Jacob “Pimp” Winneche

Pimp gave nice comments on his Twitter a few days ago about current happenings on PGL Copenhagen Major, so these points could be a good summary:

– Spirit confirming their status as favorites
– Young MOUZ continues to impress
– FURIA needs to revamp their roster
– paIN exceeding everyone’s expectations
– Heroic crumbled when mattered the most
– G2 limping into the play-off
– Vitality with room for improvement
– Complexity couldn’t get it done
– ThemongolZ is close yet far away
– Imperial doing Brazil proud
– ECSTATIC proved themselves
– VP with a heart-breaking exit from the Major
– JAME with the best post-match loser interview I’ve ever seen, pure class act
– Eternal Fire doing Turkey proud

New Favorites – Playoffs

We can say that the biggest surprise of the PGL Copenhagen Major so far is Eternal Fire. The Turkish team led by MAJ3R, woxic and XANTARTES are doing an amazing job. Their only losses were vs MOUZ in BO1 and Heroic in BO3.

Analyzing outright odds and predictions before the tournament, we can notice that from the top 5 teams that we predicted to have a chance of taking a CS Major, 4 teams entered the playoffs, and only 1 team didn’t make it: VirtusPro. This means, predictions were kinda on top.

Team Spirit @ 2.05

Team Spirit kinda increased their lead on top, acting as the number 1 favorite to win the CS Major. They were just dominant in all their matches, but they still didn’t play any Western team like FaZe and Vitality, so they can prove themselves. They have beaten NaVI (CIS), Cloud9 (CIS) and Imperials (Brazilians). But, they look amazing on paper and in the game.

Team Vitality @ 3.80

Team Vitality dropped to 2nd place in the terms of the favorites, just before the playoffs. With their loss vs Eternal Fire, they have shown us that they can be shaken. They have the opportunity to play Team Spirit in the semifinals, and if it comes to that, i think the winner of this series will become the first CS2 Major champion.

MOUZ @ 4.20

MOUZ jumped by 1 place too. From 4th to top 3 to win the Major. It’s interesting to mention that they still didn’t lose a map. Not even in Major RMR qualifiers, certainly not in this Major, yet. 2-0 vs Complexity, and close wins vs Eternal Fire and ESTATIC makes them on top of this list. I don’t think they can handle the pressure now and that they have enough experience for the playoffs of the biggest Counter-Strike tournament. But we will see.
